Dana Bivens has been riding since the age of 4,
beginning with Huntseat equitation in California. She made the switch to
Eventing in 2001 when she purchased her mare, "Lucy" at the age of 13. In
the winter of 2005, Dana moved from her home in Atlanta to Windchase Farm
in Purcellville, VA to work and train with well-respected Eventing
instructor, Phyllis Dawson. Under Phyllis's guidance (and Olympic
experience)- "Lucy" and Dana completed the VA CCI* in the spring of 2007,
and moved up to Intermediate Level that Fall with an impressive second place
finish at Waredaca Horse Trials in October. At Windchase, Dana also found
and purchased her second horse, "Lucky" who began his Eventing career last
summer, and is now ready to move up to the Preliminary level. As an
instructor, Dana places great emphasis on the basic foundations of riding:
engagement, straightness, suppleness, and communication between horse and
rider. These are values she wishes to pass onto her students which will
allow them to become more skillful and effective riders. |
